Latest Update – November 2018

Since 2011 students at Keframa High School have worked in rudimentary buildings: four half-built brick classrooms open to the elements with dirt flooring and exceedingly basic boys and girls dormitories, packed with triple decker bunk beds. The buildings open onto a public road with no fencing; anyone can walk into the classrooms or dormitories.
What these determined young people have achieved in these poor conditions is remarkable but now thanks to your support over the past two years in fundraising phase one is being constructed as I write our vision for a brand new school site just next to the old one.
Classrooms are being built each to provide space for 60 pupils, an assembly room large enough for over 300. This hall will double as the place to eat when it is too hot or raining and as a place of worship. It will also split into 4 classrooms for additional space.
Uganda now requires secondary school to have both a fully equipped science and information technology laboratories in secondary schools. We are building these classrooms but the school has no science equipment or any computers…. yet!

Offices for the head, bursar and director of studies are being built. At present they share an ‘office’ 4×8 feet… but not at the same time!! And a staff room rather than chairs under a tree.

The new site now has a new borehole with a solar pump and tanks for water storage tanks. This ends the hour-long trip to fill your own water container from a hand pump.

The new campus has latrines which will provide for privacy and washing. A 21st century wood fired oven will provide a 200% improvement in wood burning efficiency. Chimneys and draft control will ensure that staff do not live in constant wood smoke (and die early).

The 5-acre site is being fenced with secure gates manned 24 hours per day. The children will be free to move within this environment.

With the school moving to its new premises in February 2019 the students will walk daily after dawn to the school from the old buildings which will be improved to serve as dormitories. (New dormitories can only be constructed on the new site when more funds are available.)

We are astonished at what Keframa High School has achieved over the past 9 years, on a shoe string and utilising such basic resources. We are thrilled to be able to offer this powerful potential to really change lives and we can’t wait to hear the stories of the impact this new school will make on this community and the lives of northern Ugandans.
Now to fill the school…
Of course, it’s one thing to build a school, but we now need to fill it! The new Keframa High School will be open for the start of the academic year in February 2019 and we want to ensure that it is full of students.Could you make the ultimate difference to these young students by supporting them through their secondary education at £20/month (£240/year)? Click here to find out more details about sponsorship.
The directors of Keframa High School are committed to producing ‘change-agents’ through education. They seek to provide a holistic approach to school life and work with community leaders to offer sponsorship to students that show real potential and aptitude.

Will you join us in making ‘change-agents’?

Our future fundraising events can be found at www.keframaschoolbuild.co.uk and please use ‘CAF donate’ – ‘Keframa School Build’ to make any donations.

If you are unable to commit to sponsorship, could you help us buy some science equipment or a simple laptop?

Email info@keframaschoolbuild.co.uk, we would love to hear from you.

THANK YOU!
